USC Remains At No. 9 In USA TODAY Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll – Trojans Wire

The USC Trojans remain at No. 9 in the USA TODAY Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll.

Andy Enfield got an extension, then watched his team go to 12-0 with victories over UC Irvine and Georgia Tech.

USC probably won’t be able to move up next week, either, since the Oklahoma State game slated for Dec. 21 got canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Trojan program.

The Trojans struggled to defeat UC Irvine but responded with a 14-point victory over Georgia Tech in Phoenix, which is promising.

The game against Oklahoma State was going to be a tough test for this team, but now USC will have to wait until December 30 to play another game when the Men of Troy face Arizona State at the Galen Center.

Arizona and UCLA are at five and six, respectively, in this week’s poll. The Trojans face the Wildcats on January 2 in Los Angeles in a massive battle.

USC won’t face UCLA until the beginning of February. The Trojans also moved up to No. 8 in the latest AP Top 25 on Monday. Enfield has to be thrilled, even with the slow start by Boogie Ellis. He did play well in the second half against Georgia Tech, but USC needs him to be a much more consistent scorer. Ellis said he was relying too much on his jump shot. He attacked the paint a lot more against Georgia Tech. That adjustment paid off for him, and it benefited USC in a big way.

The Trojans have the week off — almost two whole weeks, in fact — so they can take a breather before jumping right into Pac-12 Conference play. They hope they won’t be too rusty if they do play Arizona State on Dec. 30.
