Rays At Mariners: Michael Wacha Rejoins The Rotation – Tampa Bay Times

Michael Wacha steps back into the Rays rotation as a traditional starter tonight against the Mariners in Seattle, taking the place of injured Tyler Glasnow. First pitch is at 10:10.

Wacha has not thrown more than three innings or 48 pitches in a game since April 27, missing three weeks with a hamstring injury and being used in the bullpen and as a multi-innings opener since.

The veteran right-hander, signed as a free agent, is 1-1, 4.54 overall. He has made four traditional starts (going 1-1, 3.32), worked three times as a multi-inning opener (0-0, 2.70) and made four relief appearances (0-0, 7.94).

Wacha said he didn’t know of a set pitch count or innings limit, but would be smart and honest in his assessment of how he felt when asked by manager Kevin Cash and pitching coach Kyle Snyder.

The Mariners are starting lefty Yusei Kikuchi (3-3, 3.67).

Before the game, the Mariners made several roster moves, calling up right-handed pitchers Yohan Ramirez and Vinny Nittoli, optioning down catcher José Godoy and putting Justin Dunn back on the injured list. He left Thursday’s game after the second inning due to shoulder discomfort .
