By Steven PonsonJacksonville FL — Independence Day weekend is here and maybe you’re planning on heading to the beach or somewhere else to celebrate. AAA says this year 2.6 million Floridians are expected to travel, which is the second-highest on record, and a 36% increase from last year. AAA Spokesman Mark Jenkins says 2.4 million of the 2.6 million will be traveling by car which is the highest on record for a July 4th holiday weekend.
“With a record number of auto travelers expected this Independence Day, you should expect more congestion out on the roadways, so leave early if you can”. Jenkins says.
He suggests the best time to leave will be before noon on Friday and after 2 PM on Saturday.
AA also says we’re going to see the highest price of gas for a 4th of July holiday since 2014. Right now, in Jacksonville AA says the average price is around $2.98 a gallon.
