Miss USA contestants got a lesson on Tuesday about the history of Tulsa’s Greenwood District.
Business owners here in Greenwood say the winner of the Miss USA pageant will be representing America and what happened in Greenwood 100 years ago is a huge part of American history.
During the tour, the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA contestants stopped at the historic Vernon AME church and listened to various speakers share shared some of the neighborhood’s unique history.
Miss Oklahoma says she’s grateful that the tour happened because it’s important to learn the history of Greenwood and the impact it has on the State.
“It’s just been honestly showing them around telling the great places that we have here and Tulsa black wall-street is really a big part of that, super grateful that’s it here because that I now know a woman in every state but now a woman in every state can go back and tell about the history that we have here in Oklahoma,” said Miss Oklahoma Albreuna Gonzaque
The celebration continues this weekend for Miss USA. They will have a costume contest coming up on Sunday afternoon.
